Madelyn's Adventures With Allergies!

Sunday night we had dinner...Spaghetti, meatballs, peas, and apple juice...All things we have previously eaten. Many times. After dinner Madelyn was still hungry and decided to eat some cottage cheese. She has also had this many times. While she was eating her face broke out in hives and swelled up to twice its size. This was very puzzling to us since we did not give her anything she was allergic to. We looked for an Epipen but could not find one. Nice. We got out the Benadryl and gave her some to help. It took several hours for her swelling to go down. I am still puzzled as to what caused that reaction.

Monday life was normal.
Tuesday we had dinner...Chicken & rice with cream cheese sauce, water and some strawberries. She broke out again. Again we have had this before. Plus it was pretty plain...This time we just checked her out and let her go to bed without any Benadryl. The swelling was not as bad as Sunday night. But we did watch her in the night to make sure she was okay.
Wednesday we took her to the Dr. and were told that she is allergic. Thanks! To what? We got a new prescription for an Epipen and her other allergy medications and came home. For dinner we had leftovers and Madelyn ate the chicken and rice thing. We figured of all the leftovers this was the least likely to give her any problems. She ate an orange after and broke out.
So we are guessing that she has a citric acid allergy. Great! Just when we thought we had this under control, she pulls something new out of her hat!
So who do you think Madelyn looks more like...?
One of the Fat Albert kids? ORShiloh Pitt?

Here's one more for your viewing pleasure!

good grief! so sad! i seriously hate the part about parenting when you have NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON with your children! No knowing kills me. i am sorry about the allergy thing...so far gillian just has seasonal allergies. i told jake if she ever got allergies to nuts we'd have to give her up for adoption ;)

Poor girl, it looks so uncomfortable! Mason has a had a cough for over a month and yesterday at the doctor he asked about a family history of allergies, i said yes his mom and dad, and he said he will probably have to be tested for ashma when he is a little older. Poor kids. it nice to talk alittle last night. I wanted to tell you that Mason has been learning many new signs. He knows about 15. It is very fun when he uses them to tell me what he wants.

Wow!!! At least she'll never need botox! She can rub orange juice on her lips! I really feel for you though. Food allergies are super scary. Gavin is super allergic to cats and some dogs and we found out by his eye lids swelling up over his eyes. It is scary!
I don't know how you do it with your kids having such severe medical things to deal with. I hope that you have figured it out.

Poor kid! We had the same problem with Dallin. We used to buy a certain brand of pancake mix all the time...I mean for like 3 years and then one day he eats them and his lips and face swell up like crazy. He's allergic to tree nuts and the bag said that it may come in contact with tree nuts...anyways, that one bag was apparently contaminated. After 3 years of eating it he reacts! You just never know! Obviously, we no longer buy that brand of pancake mix. Food Allergies are the pits! Good luck!

The kids just kept looking at the pictures. It is amazing what an allergy can do! Hope that you get it figured out so she doesn't have to get all swollen up again.
